CHCAOD004 Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues

About this Event

Turning Point (RTO 6948) has been contracted by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS Victoria) to provide competency learning and assessment opportunities to the Victorian AOD workforce. Turning Point staff conducting the AOD competencies have both clinical experience and meet the training and assessment requirements as outlined in the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF). This training is targeted at new employees to the Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) sector, currently employed in DHHS funded AOD Services.

Selection Criteria: To enrol in a unit of competency you must work in the Victorian Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) sector.

You will be notified via email if you have been successful in securing a place in the online learning and you will be required to accept your offer by a due date.

There is no cost to complete units of competency if you meet the selection criteria.

CHCAOD004 Assess needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues
Blended delivery: Online and in class training

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for and conduct assessments of alcohol and other drugs (AOD) clients to determine treatment planning and referral needs.

This includes knowledge of factors affecting assessment for a range of different client groups including different genders, youth, older people, mandated and voluntary clients, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait islander people and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

This unit applies people involved in the assessment of clients with AOD issues using established organisation or standardised AOD assessment tools. For this training we will be using Victoria Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Intake and AOD comprehensive documents.

This unit of competency is assessed and you will be required to complete assessment tasks.

Training and assessment components are delivered in a blended learning environment:

  • Online
  • In class - two (2) days

On Monday 7th September 2020 student resources essential for your learning will be available via the online learning platform.

Online learning and assessment will commence Monday 14th September 2020 and will conclude Friday 6th November 2020.

In addition to the online learning you must be available to attend the following dates in class:

Wednesday 14th October and Wednesday 28th October 2020

In class training will be held at Turning Point, 110 Church Street, Richmond 3121 and will commence at 9:00am and conclude at 4:00pm on each day.

In order to reduce the risks of COVID-19 contagion during in class training the following safeguards may be implemented:

  3. Social distancing will be practised in the training room and communal areas
