Overview
The Network Connectivity Fundamentals – Fibre Optic Standards and Conformance Testing Course provides the necessary understanding of the requirements for infield testing for LAN (customer) optical fibre cabling systems to meets Standards and certification requirements. The course provides an easy to understand format aimed at the field staff installing and testing of optical fibre systems.

Primarily for…Communication cabling contractors, Installers, testing staff, those for establishing compliance to standards and specification for optical fibre installations.
You need to have…Experience in the installation of optical fibre communication cabling.
Objectives and Content
The objective of this course is to provide the participants a clear understand of the requirements for testing an optical fibre installation.
Changes in testing standard and AS/NZS 11801.x (AS/NZS3080) – What has Changed
Conformance assessment requirements – What is needed
-  Basic -  Transmission (LSPM) -  Extended Test Group (OTDR)
Tests required, cause of faults and fault rectification method – how to fix it
Introduction to light theory and the impact to installed cabling – how it works
-  Why modal dispersion limits length of multimode systems – why length is important-  Why low water peak is a requirement of OS1A and OS2
Cable and connector types, construction types and selection criteria -what’s needed to make it work
Light Source and Power meter testing – how it is tested
-  Zeroing methods-  Budgets-  Reporting obligations outside of the test data
Introduction to OTDR testing – how it is done and what do the results mean
-  OTDR setup and test configuration-  Interpretation of OTDR traces-  Tester setup and practical
Quality Plans
-  Quality plans requirements for establishing conformance – What needs to be done
Course Outcome/Qualification
After the successful completion of this training course, you have been recognised to have required skills to carry out testing and resolve issues to establish installation conformance for optical fibre installations.
A Statement of Completion will be awarded to successful candidates.
The successful completion of this course is a prerequisite to obtaining ECO Expert Qualification.
