The Institute recently recognised Tzannes with the 2019 Sir G Stephenson Award for Commercial Architecture and an interior architecture award for the Dangrove  Art Storage & Operations Centre, and we are now delighted to offer members and other lovers of architecture the opportunity to tour this exceptional building.
This guided tour will take us through the site, exploring how complex technical, programmatic and functional requirements have been resolved and how exquisite detailing has been achieved. The tour will end in the dramatic Great Hall, where a Tzannes representative will deliver a talk on this outstanding project.

Alec Tzannes
Alec is the founding director of Tzannes. He established the firm’s distinctive design philosophy and collaborative work practices with a record of design excellence across a wide range of projects.
Alec has served the community in a number of other roles including as National President of the Australian Institute of Architects (2006-7) and as Professor of Practice and Dean of UNSW Built Environment (2008-15). He retains an ongoing relationship with UNSW as an Emeritus Professor undertaking research and teaching roles, contributing to the firm’s commitment to thought leadership in design and architecture practice. In 2017 UNSW honoured Alec’s achievements with the degree of Doctor of the University honoris causa.
In 2018 he was awarded the Australian Institute of Architects’ Gold Medal. The Gold Medal recognises distinguished service by architects who have designed or executed buildings of high merit, produced work of great distinction resulting in the advancement of architecture or endowed the profession of architecture in a distinguished manner.
Chi Melhem
Chi has been a director of Tzannes since 2016. Prior to joining the studio in 2003 she gained valuable experience working at various size Sydney practices and at Lend Lease. During her time at Tzannes Chi has been responsible for a diverse range of projects and has established a reputation for her architecture with deep design integrity, structured management approach and proficient technical delivery. She has led in the implementation of these skills in our studio’s approach and management of projects.

Terms & conditions for CPD events

Fees must be paid in full before the event.
Institute members are entitled to the discounts shown, provided their membership number is quoted when the booking is made, and their membership subscription is active at the time of booking.
The Institute reserves the right to cancel or alter the dates, speakers or venue. In the event of cancellation, bookings will be transferred to the next available event unless the registrant requests otherwise.
Cancellations by the attendee must be received in writing. No refunds or cancellations are permitted within two (2) full working days prior to the event. 'No shows' will not be refunded. Note: Cancellations by Institute Members due to sickness on the day of the event will receive a full refund contingent on receipt of a medical certificate.
'No Shows' - Due to NSW Architects Registration Board CPD regulations the Institute is not permitted to issue documentation from seminars/workshops if registrants do not attend.
A certificate of completion is required by the NSW Architects Registration Board as evidence of attendance at formal CPD activities. For validity, this must include the participant’s name and registration number. If you wish to claim formal CPD points for this activity, you MUST provide the Institute with your full name and registration number prior to the event.
As per NSW Architects Registration Board requirements, certificates of completion will only be issued to participants who have attended the entire activity. It is the responsibility of participants to ensure they are signed in and signed out of activities as evidence of attendance.
